Out of pure kindness, Harriet insisted the couple stay for as long as they needed, reassuring them that her home was theirs until they found a place of their own. Paul was deeply grateful. He hadn’t expected such generosity from his mother and had already resigned himself to living with Lily in the small, one-bedroom apartment they had recently viewed. But Harriet refused to accept that. “No son of mine is going to live in a cramped little space in a rough part of town. Not on my watch,” she declared firmly.

She insisted on preparing all their meals, ensuring they shared dinner together at the grand dining table. “I can’t tell you how happy I am to have the two of you here,” she would often say with heartfelt joy.
